Weekend Tunes

In addition to being a trout bum, my other passion has to do with music.  I am a saxophonist, jazz fan, and terrible guitarist.  The Buddy DeFranco Jazz Festival is currently happening at the University of Montana in Missoula, not to far up to road and in honor of the event, here is a clip of Buddy at his finest.  I will be there later tonight.  It's great to have world class jazz in Western Montana!  Enjoy!

Seven Come Eleven - Buddy DeFranco 1991

Buddy DeFranco - Clarinet
Terry Gibbs - Vibraphone
Herb Ellis - Guitar
Larry Novak - Piano
Milton Hinton - Bass
Butch Miles - Drums

I will be trying to bring you new tunes every weekend.

Our rivers flirted with flood stage yesterday, not very conducive to fishing, looks like runoff is early this year, oh well.

Why I Live Here

Big Sky Country is a great place to live.  Sure, you get a bit spoiled sometimes.  When was the last time you kept on driving because you saw one car at the access you were planning to fish at?

For me It's hard to imagine living anywhere else.  When you drive down a back road in this state people wave.  The word neighbor still means something.  Folks tend be the hard working, honest kind.

For me Montana really is about the spots off the beaten path.  The towns with one or two cafe's, three bars, and seven churches.  I enjoy the rivers that you will never really find in many magazines, sure they get pressure, sure they have guides on them.  Day in, day out however, it's a locals game, love it.

Montana I gotta say, is best experienced on a dirt road.  The following pictures represent some of my travels from the past year.  Most if not all the shots are "off the beaten path" so to speak, lets hope they stay that way.

You gotta love trout for one thing.  They just have a hard time not living in pretty place.  Am I right?

Yellow Belly Marmot, this was shot was without zoom.  Fearless little bugger.

Beaver Slide's in the Big Hole Valley.

Because there has to be a fish picture in there somewhere!

More to follow in a few day, maybe...

Really, Another Fishing Blog?

Oh no, not another fly fishing blog!  Yep, sorry.  Don't worry there will not be any gear reviews, long winded articles, or really anything else of value worth reading to be found here.  If you want to some valuable insider information, secret locations, useful fly patterns or proper grammar, I might not be able to help you there.

No, here at Bum Trout you will likely not find any great grip and grins from far flung locales, no exotic species, or anything of that nature.

This blog is meant to be a collection of my time spent wandering around Montana's rivers and lakes, big and small, famous and not so famous, chasing trout in a great place that I am lucky to call home.  I hope you will find the posts yet to come interesting and worth a look.

Thanks for the visit and please feel free to comment!

Here are a few shots, spring fishing is winding up in the Rockies, great snow pack, fish are hungry.

Life is good.
